Congratulations to Youth Projects! Here is their media release:

Cutting edge health clinic wins Melbourne Award

Not for profit agency Youth Projects has been awarded the prestigious 2010 Melbourne Award for outstanding contribution to community at a gala ceremony at the Melbourne Town Hall on 28 August.

The Melbourne Awards celebrate people and organisations whose vision and hard work shape the city, focusing on people and organisations that go above and beyond the call of duty.

The award recognises the Youth Projects Living Room primary health service in Hosier Lane which provides an innovative range of programs to assist homeless and marginalised people in Melbourne.

Youth Projects chairperson Melanie Raymond said the award highlights the unique and complex work of the agency in addressing issues of homelessness, alcohol and drug use and mental health.

"It's a mammoth achievement to see over 6000 clients a year in the heart of the city, well above the funding we receive which is for 800 clients.

"We thank the City of Melbourne for building an environment that supports and welcomes innovative, cutting edge services like the Living Room."

The Living Room is at the forefront in HIV/AIDS prevention, and the use of art, film, sport, nutrition and digital inclusion programs to support the homeless.

Youth Projects has been operating for 25 years in Melbourne's north and west and was Melbourne's first specialist youth alcohol and drug service.

The Melbourne Award recipients were selected across three categories - community, profile and environment by a panel of 40 independent judges.
