The American Journal of Psychiatry, edition June 2010, has published a couple of articles about the comorbidity of alcoholism and depression.

The articles provide information on the latest findings and some very practical advice regarding pharmacotherapy for depression and alcohol dependence. Importance of early detection of alcoholism through standardized screening is pointed out, similarly to the last week's UK prevention guidelines.

The complete articles are available only to subscribers of the American Journal of Psychiatry, however you can read a detailed summary and review in the editorial by Patakar and Li - "Treatments for Alcohol Dependence: Rethinking the Role of Comorbidity and Clinical Subtypes".
