Have you seen this article on Motivational Interviewing. Dr Malcolm Thomas sets out the basics of promoting behaviour change in his article that targets front line workers who have not been trained in Motivational Interviewing.

It gives tips for frontline practitioners to add to their toolkit. Provides conversation starters and a range of ‘how to's' as well as pitfalls and some helpful suggestions, such as rolling with resistance.

The article has a clarity and provides realistic examples of conversations with clients. So while the examples given are predominantly from the AOD environment those who work in the mental health sector will find this useful.

Dr Malcolm Thomas is director of UK national training provider Effective Professional
Interactions Ltd. www.effectivepi.co.uk
