In the Psychiatric Times [USA] Vol 25 No 1 the article penned by Patrick Abbott, MD and Duane M. Chase, MD in January 2008 "Culture and Substance Abuse Impact of Culture Affects Approach to Treatment" begins with an overview of the historical background and context for substance abuse.

It then provides a review of the effect of culture on the initiation of use, and abuse of substance.
