"People with comorbid mental disorders and substance use frequently need care from several different disciplines. It is important that communication between all clinicians and service providers is coordinated."(p4)
Monograph 71 is a fantastic resource for clinicians, GP's and all interested in the treatment of people with a mental health and substance abuse issue. It provides a straightforward guide to comorbidity. It provides information on levels of evidence as well as management of people with mental health and substance use issues, common drug groups, tobacco, depression, anxiety, psychosis, personality, somatoform and eating disorders gambling, brain injury mental disorders, and substance use.
These guidelines have a greater academic foundation than the 2002 edition. Information related to brain injury, gambling, tobacco, inhalants and solvents not previously covered is included.

This monograph provides clinicians with information on how best to manage individuals with comorbid mental disorders and substance use issues. Monograph 71 'Comorbidity of mental disorders and substance use: A brief guide for the primary care clinician' is now available both in hard copy and electronically.
