The New York State Health Foundation (NYSHealth) has announced the launch of the Center of Excellence for the Integration of Care Web site. Please click here to view the site.
The New York State Health Foundation created CEIC - the Center for Excellence in Integrated Care - to improve outpatient services for New York State residents who are struggling with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions.
CEIC states that in New York State, fewer than 10% of the 1.4 million of its residents who have both substance use and mental health conditions receive evidence-based treatment for both conditions.
CEIC formed partnerships with a number of agencies networks and groups to further its mission to increase the capacity of New York State's 1,200 + statewide addiction and mental health outpatient clinics to provide integrated clinical care for people with co-occurring conditions.
It' three major clinical care objectives are to implement:
• a uniform and standardized approach to screening
• a domain (or component) approach to assessment and
• the use of selected evidence-based practices for integrated treatment
CEIC cites that the expected clinical outcomes are that all mental health and substance use outpatient service clinics will have implemented integrated screening, assessments and evidence-based practices consistently. At the New York State level, it anticipates a significant increase in the total number of programs that are capable of providing integrated services and that are "Culturally Competent."
