headspace
provides a national, coordinated focus on youth mental health and related drug and alcohol problems in Australia and aims to improve access for young people aged 12-25 years to appropriate services and ensure better coordination between services.

headspace is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing and operated by a consortium led by ORYGEN Research Centre at the University of Melbourne and includes the Australian General Practice Network, the Australian Psychological Society and the Brain and Mind Research Institute at the University of Sydney.
headspace services are designed and tailored to meet client demand. They provide services for people aged 12 - 25 years.

You can locate a headspace site in seven different catchment areas across Victoria. There are multiple venues/sites for some of the headspace services. Free computer use and internet access is available at some sites.

Western Melbourne headspace
This headspace is located in the Visy Cares Hub Building and provides service to young people in Maribrynong, Hobsons Bay, Wyndham and Brimbank areas. Staff include:

• clinical psychologists
• general psychologists
• psychiatrists
• occupational therapists and
• social workers
• access team
• community capacity and development team
In addition to these services, Western Melbourne headspace has a Community Capacity and Development Team that will schools, sports club or events and give information about young people and mental health or run workshops about a particular health issue.

headspace Barwon
The headspace Barwon - Clockwork is located in Geelong and headspace Jigsaw is located in Corio they cover the cities of Geelong, Surfcoast, Bellarine Peninsula, Queenscliff and Golden Plains and parts of Colac-Otway shire.
Services located within the headspace Barwon include
• General Practitioners Association of Geelong
• Barwon Health provides public Mental Health services for the region
• Barwon Health Drug and Alcohol Services
• Mental Illness Fellowship PDRSS service
• Pathways Rehabilitation and Support Services a PDRSS service
• Bellarine Community Health
Programs include General Practice for any concerns, mental health assessment and support, drug and alcohol counselling and support, sexual health issues or other health and wellbeing concerns. Both individual and group programs are available.

headspace Southern Melbourne
This headspace has three GPs who work on site. Young people are invited to drop in or make appointments. The St Kilda site is near Balaclava Station. Young people can talk to a range of staff about
• what is in their headspace
• counselling to work out and overcome difficulties
• wellness checks and medical advice
• employment and training
• sorting out problems at school
• dealing with issues with family and friends
• housing
• legal issues such as debts, fines and charges
• drug and alcohol issues

South West Victoria headspace covers all the towns across South West Victoria, including Warrnambool, Portland, Camperdown and Hamilton. South West Victoria headspace is a partnership of 13 local agencies and services that together, offer a broad range of services - Brophy Family & Youth Services is the lead agency and works closely with primary care, mental health, education, alcohol and other drug and vocational services.
Staff include youth workers, psychologists, counsellors, education and employment specialists experienced and passionate about working with young people.
This site has a retail clothing shop, Warrnambool's Ticketek outlet as well as a cafe and a great public space.
It looks like this. Some of the Improved Services Project Coordinators visited the site 3 April. Mary Clapham, Manager of this headspace site gave a presentation on the headspace service reform initiative, the development of the new paradigm in mental health and AOD services for young people together with other insights on collaborative working relationships and the benefits of capacity building.
