Service Standards for Non-Government Providers of Community Mental Health Services. An 18-page document developed by the Department of Health Western Australian Government. The Office of Mental Health, Western Australia undertook a comprehensive consultation process to gather the views of people giving and receiving mental health services through the community mental health sector as a response to the identified need of standards designed specifically for the NGO service provision environment. Like Victoria, Western Australia has a range of mental health services delivered by community based agencies. Service elements include intensive personal support, day activities and personal self-help groups.
These standards are expressed as outcome statements and are related to the value base of respect of human rights, dignity and empowerment of mental health consumers. Each standard is followed by a list of service policy and practice to indicate good practice in that domain. The document articulates three mandatory standards, Rights and Responsibilities, Safety and Privacy and Confidentiality. A companion Resource Kit and Self Assessment tool was developed to assist agencies to manage the implementation of these standards. A great resource.
