Youth Mental Illness and Drug Abuse Costs U.S. Billions

An expert panel established by the National Research Council and Institute of Medicine, (US) has urged the Obama administration to set up prevention goals and a coordinated government approach to address the costs to the United States of mental illness, substance abuse and behavioural problems among children and young adults: $247billion (US) annually for treatment and lost productivity.
