THE NATIONAL YOUTH AFFAIRS RESEARCH SCHEME (NYARS) was established in 1985 as a cooperative funding arrangement between the Australian Government and the State and Territory Governments to facilitate nationally based research into current social, political and economic factors affecting young people. The Scheme operates under the auspices of the Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs (MCEETYA).

This paper was prepared by the National Youth Affairs Research Scheme (NYARS) and is intended to promote background research and other information as a basis for discussion.

Published in 2004, the paper is dedicated to the issue of comorbidity and young people. It reports on its relationship across domains including homelessness, suicide and self harm the services system barriers providing commentary on approaches and recommendations when working with young people.  Significant in the collation of the paper is the information provided by young people.
